Find the Perfect Air Conditioner for Your Home
Your air conditioning system is a huge investment in your home, but it also represents a hefty portion of your budget. So you definitely want to make sure you’re getting your money’s worth when buying one. But trying to work out which one is right for your home can be difficult. With things like the size of the unit, the available features, what your home needs, the quality and the cost to consider – it can all make your head spin.
Lake Macquarie & Hunter Air Conditioning is here to help you make the best choice for your family, your home and your wallet!
Types of AC Units
There are four main types of air conditioners, each designed for different purposes. Read on to find out a little more about each and start your journey to finding the best one for you.
There are more things to consider such as budget and the area that needs to be cooled when choosing the best aircon for your home. So make sure to speak to a qualified HVAC contractor before you invest your time and, more importantly, your money in one!
Central Air Conditioner
Central air conditioners combine all the parts of an aircon system in one unit that is usually mounted on the roof or on a concrete slab near your foundation. Ducts run through the exterior wall or roof of your home from the unit, drawing warm air out the house and returning cold air to the inside. These are easily combined with a set of heating coils or natural gas furnace inside your home.
Ductless, Mini Split Air Conditioner
These types of air conditioners don’t have ductwork. They combine a compressor and condenser mounted outside your home with one or more air handling units on the inside. They’re mounted on a wall with attached blowers. Each room in your home has a separate unit that cools only that room and that can be more energy-efficient. You don’t need to tear up any walls to install them, but it can be expensive when you want to cool your whole house.
Portable Air Conditioner
These are the same self-contained design as a window unit but can be moved to different rooms as needed. It’s self-contained and stands freely on the floor, so it is easy to move around. All you need is a power outlet and a window that the exhaust air can be funnelled out of.
Window Air Conditioner
These are the most common types of AC units for single rooms. They are also the most easily recognisable. All the components of the aircon are housed in a box that has a single thermostat gauge and that can be fitted into a slot in the wall – or a window obviously!
